Berry Boulevard Presbyterian Church was organized in 1905. We serve a
neighborhood that is just southwest of Churchill Downs.
We are a
congregation of the Presbyterian Church in
the United States of America (PCUSA)
Our Mission:
The
Church of Jesus Christ faces the challenge of ministry in our changing
neighborhood by reaching out beyond the walls of Berry Boulevard
Presbyterian Church. We shall do this by building new partnerships
with our neighbors.
We believe that all
God's children are called to be instruments to glorify God. We shall
therefore strive to fulfill this mission through ministries that:
-
are rooted in the Bible and responsive to God's call to peace and
justice;
-
connect the Gospel to everyday life in relevant and transforming ways;
-
welcome and embrace all people;
-
empower people to grow as
followers of Christ
and doers of God's will in Jesus; to encourage the use of their
gifts in ministry and mission for God's glory; and
-
renew our spiritual energy through creative worship and meaningful
community ministries.
Objectives:
The community ministry model
is based on a process of church-based community organizing which
emphasizes
-
leadership
development;
-
collective
action;
-
theological
reflection which connects scripture to community issues and
concerns;
-
grassroots
neighborhood organizing; and
-
public advocacy
and action.
Goals:
-
For ministry
teams to develop lay leadership and foster collective action through
partnerships with people and churches in the neighborhood
-
To help create
and nurture a new church-based neighborhood community center
-
To use the
Wednesday evening Gathering experience as a principal means to
build, renew, and enliven the spiritual energy of its participants,
connecting spiritual life to mission and ministry in our community
Our vision:
To be a spirit-filled community of faith that is a witness to
Christ's promise of resurrection and new life, planting seeds of hope
in our neighborhood and sharing God's love with all people
